The Time Zone Converter shows one date and time in several IANA time zones side by side, with each zone's UTC offset and abbreviation. Daylight saving time comes from the browser's time zone database, so IST to UTC and PST to IST are correct on any date. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to convert a time between time zones
- Enter the date and time —
2026-09-26 18:30,26 Sep 2026 6:30 PM, or an ISO timestamp withZor an offset. - Choose the From zone the time was written in, then add one or more target zones. Zones are searchable by city or region, such as
Kolkata,New_YorkorLondon. - Read the rows and copy what you need, or use Format this date to open the result in the Date Formatter, or Convert to timestamp for the Unix Timestamp Converter.
Examples
An evening meeting in India
From Asia/Kolkata, input 2026-09-26 18:30, with four target zones:
Asia/Kolkata Sat 26 Sep 2026 18:30 (+05:30 GMT+5:30)
UTC Sat 26 Sep 2026 13:00 (+00:00 UTC)
America/New_York Sat 26 Sep 2026 09:00 (-04:00 EDT)
America/Los_Angeles Sat 26 Sep 2026 06:00 (-07:00 PDT)
Europe/London Sat 26 Sep 2026 14:00 (+01:00 GMT+1)A UTC timestamp across Asia-Pacific
The input has a Z, so it is already an exact instant; the From zone only decides the first row:
UTC Sat 26 Sep 2026 13:00 (+00:00 UTC)
Asia/Kolkata Sat 26 Sep 2026 18:30 (+05:30 GMT+5:30)
Asia/Tokyo Sat 26 Sep 2026 22:00 (+09:00 GMT+9)
Australia/Sydney Sat 26 Sep 2026 23:00 (+10:00 GMT+10)The same 9 a.m. in Los Angeles, before and after the clocks change
Europe ends summer time on 25 October 2026 and the United States on 1 November, so the gap to India and London shifts twice:
From America/Los_Angeles |
Asia/Kolkata |
Europe/London |
|---|---|---|
| Fri 30 Oct 2026 09:00 (-07:00 PDT) | 21:30 | 16:00 (GMT) |
| Mon 2 Nov 2026 09:00 (-08:00 PST) | 22:30 | 17:00 (GMT) |
Half-hour and quarter-hour offsets
From Asia/Kathmandu, 2026-09-26 18:30:
Asia/Kathmandu Sat 26 Sep 2026 18:30 (+05:45 GMT+5:45)
Asia/Kolkata Sat 26 Sep 2026 18:15 (+05:30 GMT+5:30)
Australia/Adelaide Sat 26 Sep 2026 22:15 (+09:30 GMT+9:30)Options explained
The Time Zone Converter is a form, not an editor, so it has no settings drawer. These are its controls:
- Date and time — ISO 8601 (
2026-09-26T13:00:00Z), SQL-style2026-09-26 18:30,26 Sep 2026 6:30 PM, Unix timestamps, or a time alone (18:30) for today. A value withZor an offset is an exact instant; a value without one is read in the From zone. - From zone — the IANA zone the input was written in. It defaults to your browser's zone; when the browser reports an old alias such as
Asia/Calcutta, the current nameAsia/Kolkatais shown instead. - Target zones — one or more IANA zones shown as rows, each with the local date, time, UTC offset and abbreviation. The date is shown on every row because conversions often cross midnight.
Common time zone conversion problems
Pacific time shows −07:00, not −08:00
"PST" is often used loosely for Pacific time all year, but PST (−08:00) applies only in winter. From March to November, America/Los_Angeles is on PDT (−07:00). Pick city zones rather than abbreviations; if you really mean a fixed −08:00, enter it as an offset, such as 2026-09-26T06:00:00-08:00.
A meeting moved by an hour in late March or October
One of the zones changed its clocks. The United States, Europe and Australia switch on different dates, and India does not observe daylight saving time at all, so the gap between, say, New York and Kolkata is 9½ hours in summer and 10½ in winter. Always convert with the actual meeting date.
A time that does not exist
During the spring change, clocks skip an hour. 2026-03-08 02:30 in America/New_York never happened, so it is moved forward to 03:30 EDT (07:30 UTC). Check times between 02:00 and 03:00 on transition days.
A time that happens twice
During the autumn change, an hour repeats. 2026-11-01 01:30 in New York occurs twice; the converter uses the first occurrence, 01:30 EDT (05:30 UTC). Add an explicit offset, such as -05:00, to select the second.
The date is a day off
The target zone is across midnight. 23:30 in Kolkata on 26 September is 11:00 the same day in Los Angeles, but 03:00 on the 27th in Tokyo. Each row shows its own date for this reason.
FAQ
How do I convert IST to UTC?
Subtract 5 hours 30 minutes. India Standard Time is UTC+05:30 all year, with no daylight saving time, so 18:30 IST is 13:00 UTC on the same day. Choose Asia/Kolkata as the From zone and add UTC as a target, or paste an ISO time with +05:30.
How do I convert UTC to IST?
Add 5 hours 30 minutes: 13:00 UTC is 18:30 IST, and 20:00 UTC is 01:30 IST the next day. Enter the UTC time with a Z, for example 2026-09-26T13:00:00Z, and add Asia/Kolkata as a target.
What is the time difference between PST and IST?
India is 13½ hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time (November to March) and 12½ hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time (March to November). So 9:00 in Los Angeles is 22:30 in India in winter and 21:30 in summer. Enter the actual date to get the right one.
What is an IANA time zone?
IANA zones, such as Asia/Kolkata or America/New_York, are named regions in the tz database with a full history of offsets and daylight saving rules. They are what operating systems, browsers, Java, Python's zoneinfo and PostgreSQL use. Store zones by IANA name, never by abbreviation or current offset.
Should I store times in UTC or local time?
Store instants — log entries, payments, created-at fields — in UTC or with an explicit offset, and convert for display. For future events tied to a place, such as a 9:00 meeting in London next year, also store the IANA zone, because daylight saving rules can change before the event happens.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The conversion uses the time zone database built into your browser, inside an isolated frame that blocks network requests. Your chosen zones are remembered on this device; the dates you type are not stored unless you turn on "Remember my last input".
